Morristown, N.J. (June 15, 2014) – An exciting exhibition of 3- dimensional works entitled, Compiled and Composed: Sculptural Formations, opens at the Therese A. Maloney Art Gallery in Annunciation Center at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, N.J., on Monday, June 30, 2014, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. The opening will be followed by a panel discussion with participating artists moderated by Virginia Fabbri Butera, Ph.D., Director of the Maloney Art Gallery, in Dolan Performance Hall also in Annunciation Center, from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
The exhibition will be on view through September 14, 2014 and includes the work of 15 artists from New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. Focusing on accumulating, assembling or excavating a vast range of materials to develop their objects, contemporary painters, sculptors, photographers, and mixed media and performance artists, have created an astonishing range of lively and unusual 3-D pieces. Dr. Butera notes that, “Working with shape, color and juxtapositions of found objects or carefully formed materials, the artists have create beautiful, humorous, insightful and profound compositions reflecting the juxtapositions and chaos of contemporary life. A skate board, petri dishes, i-pod covers, a stuffed fish, trumpets, a keyboard, rope, crushed eyeglasses, a candy box, nylon stockings, car parts and a Pepsi can are just some of the items the artists have utilized!”
The reception and the panel discussion is also a featured part of the four-day Artists’ Workshop that is being held at the College from June 29 – July 2, 2014 and focuses on how visual artists can enhance their innovative and creative potential using assemblage and appropriation techniques. Two of the artists in the exhibition, Rocco Scary and Raúl Villarreal, are the CSE professors who will be teaching the workshop.
